Commodity pricing. OCC gained $10 a ton in September, aluminum is holding near a dollar a pound, and PET remains under 3 cents a pound, with October pricing expected mid-month.
Regional fuel prices. Rocky Mountain was the only region where diesel rose in the week of September 28 and now sits slightly above the national average, while Gulf Coast diesel fell more than 22 cents.
Clean Harbors closes its $775 million deals. Clean Harbors completed its acquisitions of Utah-based EnviroServe for $470 million and Gulf Coast-based ES&H for $305 million on October 5, and customers of either should expect contract reviews.
Franchise & contract watch. Albuquerque started an every-other-week recycling pilot covering 6,595 homes, Paradise Valley's first single-hauler franchise award is still expected in December, and Phoenix's residential rate is set to rise from $42.32 to $51.32 a month by July 2028.
Open RFPs. An Arizona landfill, transfer station and disposal services bid is due October 13, and Brownsville, Texas is taking hazardous and nonhazardous waste disposal proposals until October 21.
Industry headlines. The U.S. had about 10% fewer active landfills in 2025 than in 2010 while municipal solid waste rose 10%, Colorado's EPR program made recycling free in Cortez and Dolores, SWANA partnered with The Battery Network, and Tucson holds a household hazardous waste day on October 10.
